<\/b>As Halloween approaches, it is important to prepare and plan ahead to make this holiday a safe one.<\/span><\/h2>\n

    Only buy costumes that are made from flame resistant material. Don\u2019t assume that the materials are flame-resistant: the label should say “flame-retardant.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    Choose a costume that can easily be seen at night. You may need to fit the costume with reflective or glow-in-the-dark tape.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n

    The trick-or-treat bag should glow or have reflective material on it, to be easily seen at night.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n

    To prevent tripping, avoid costumes that have material or fabric that trail past the child’s feet.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  5. \n

    Flashlights and glow sticks are a convenient safety accessory for many children\u2019s costumes.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  6. \n

    Use electric lights as alternatives to candles or torch lights when decorating walkways and yards because trick-or-treaters costumes may brush against the lighting.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  7. \n

    Don’t let your child\u2019s costume cover their face or eyes.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  8. \n

    Accompany your children when going trick-or-treating. Give them a cell phone and make sure they know how to call 911 as well as their home phone number in case they get lost.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  9. \n

    Limit trick-or-treating to your neighborhood and the homes of people you and your children know.<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n
  10. \n
